What’s funny is most Americans like Australians way more than pretty much every other nationality 😂

Mine keeps saying “no worries” after fixing everything like it’s a life philosophy.

493

u/Jedimaster996 16h ago

...I'm now realizing Australia may have rubbed-off on me more than I thought. This is my go-to for everything.

618

u/Few-Gas3143 15h ago

Well if an Australian is rubbing off on you, that means he likes you.

8

u/3720-to-1 14h ago

Not necessarily... Maybe they rub one in spite

It does come from Australia originally (1960s iirc), but through an interchange of culture, time, and the magic of the internet, shit spreads.

I lived with an Australian guy in college. He would always call Americans Fat Pigs and Seppos (short for septic tank).

Honestly Great guy.

37

u/SuitableKey5140 13h ago

Seppo also is a play on words cos yank and tank sound the same and theres the correlation back to seppo as yanks are 'full of shit'

I work with an Australian guy, he insists he's from New Zealand but I think i can tell the difference.

73

u/Doctor_Boombastic 14h ago

It's easy. Australians will say it like, 'where's the car', but a Kiwi will say it like, 'where's the car'.

76

u/SP_UAS 13h ago

"Oi, whehhhs tha cahhh?" vs "Ey bro, wiiis thu cuh?"

In my experience this is pretty true, I don't think I've ever had a negative thought about Australia.

255

u/BrbFlippinInfinCoins 17h ago

I think it is the accent. They always sound like they're in a humorous mood

116

u/Shermans_ghost1864 16h ago

I once heard an interesting (and serious) theory that the broad Australian accent is basically British English modified by heavy drinking.

66

u/Skore_Smogon 15h ago

To me it sounds like an English accent spoken through a face squinting in the sun.

18

u/Axon_Zshow 14h ago

Tbf, that checks out. Australia gets several times the sunlight that England does.

About the place? The gigantic pit of hot death with sprinkling of venomous creatures around the edges? No. No thank you very much.

127

u/Rhomya 16h ago

You would think Australians and Americans would bond over having a plethora of deadly fauna

98

u/Never_Go_Full_Gonk 16h ago

Yeah, the American southwest is just as deadly lmao. Grew up there and even the plants try to kill you.

25

u/Mightbeagoat4 15h ago

Anywhere with moose... moose kill or maim a fair amount of people every year. More than bears/wolves/mountain lions combined.

Also grizzly bears. Those scare the shit out of me.

7

u/Party-Entertainer504 14h ago

The scary part about moose is how silent the bastards are. I saw one a few years ago silently trot through 2 feet of crunchy snow. It made as much sound as a small to medium dog slowly walking despite making a horse look tiny.

70

u/must_not_forget_pwd 13h ago

Don't forget she also complained about the under-representation of women in breakdancing. Apparently she knew plenty of talented women. Decided to sell that all out for a free trip to France.

34

u/Brawndo91 12h ago

She could have admitted that maybe she just isn't that good at breakdancing and maybe people would cut her some slack, but instead she doubled down and said everyone else was doing the same moves and she was being original. I guess she was right about being original, but if she went up there and just stood still, that would technically be original, but it would not be very good breakdancing.

As an American, I’ve come to accept that pretty much every single other country hates our guts. And while I do completely understand where the sourness comes from, it does make me sad. There are so, so many of us here who are the antithesis to the stereotypical American. I wish more people outside the states knew that about us.

Edit: Seeing lots of folks saying it’s silly for me to feel sad. Don’t take that out of context. I’m sad that the Americans, who are nothing like the stereotype, are forgotten or “unicorns.” Whether you personally like me or not isn’t relevant.

As a frenchman, I've come to accept it also.

As an Aussie, the missus and I travelled to France last year for 2 weeks, spent like 5 nights in Paris and didn’t have a single bad interaction with a French person the whole time. I swear you guys get a way worse wrap than you deserve.

As an American I agree (few weeks there)

IDK, I traveled around Europe during the Bush Era, when American hate was at an all time high. I always found cool Aussies to party with!

I think a lot of places generically hate Americans because of the media and what not.

I think when people meet Americans they like them.

I’m a kiwi / Australian and was low key supporting the USA for the soccer match just because how snarky all the Aussies got approaching the game.

Do Aussies really dislike Americans? When I was Active Duty, I always had a good time working with allies except Australians... because we'd have a great time! Sense of humor, general toughness, ability to work hard and party hard, it's like all the things US Soldiers value exemplified.

u/Trollslayer0104 15h ago

No, we don't hate Americans. I've worked with many inside and outside the military. There are times when Australians get very frustrated with America, but we don't hate Americans

Anyway, it's just a meme.

No Aussies don’t hate Americans. I served with Americans and met plenty while travelling, always happy to have a beer with us and talk shit, instant friends. Reddit isn’t a reflection of real people. The vast majority of Australians know America is our greatest ally.

u/TeenyBoppey 14h ago

Second greatest ally, I think we’d go to war if anyone proper fucked with New Zealand

I ran into some Aussies in Tokyo a few years back. Bought all the boys Yamazaki. We drank and told stories of home. There’s something to be said for the affinity between Texans and Australians especially.

I remember our rivalry with them in the Summer Olympics for the swimming category

Still on top 😌

59

u/Rhomya 16h ago

lol, our “rivalry” got quiet pretty fast once Katie Ledecky started to swim.

Once the break dancing started, it shriveled up and died lol

Omg Americans are getting involved in World Cup banter. This is not a drill, I repeat this is NOT a drill

Any American who has travelled to Australia would know this isn’t true. We get along very well with Americans.

Also I feel like Australian banter can get misinterpreted given how aggressive it can sound, but it’s rarely serious, just a bit of playful shit stirring.

At this point no one likes the US as a concept or political entity.

Australians make fun of America sometimes, but to say we despise them is pretty dumb

u/unkownracoon 15h ago

At this point, can't you switch the australien flag with a world map? Not many placed left....

This reminds me of England and Germany. I grew up in Britain, and the English would often speak of the fierce rivalry that they have with the Germans.

Then I moved to Germany and... nobody even seemed to be aware of any rivalry.

It's mainly a vibe thing. Americans tend to be obnoxious and we do not vibe with that. Also their new King is fucking world politics and making it hard to afford life
