I love seeing this man thrive and help so many people enjoy this hobby of ours. Its stuff like this that reminds me theres still so much good in the world.
With everything happening in all our worlds today, it is so uplifting to see those smiling faces. You're a great human for helping those kids find a little bit of joy and so are everyone who helps you in your endeavor. Seriously thank you for being who you are.
It feels good to see this from the beginning as a redditor, but you have definitely impacted those kids more than you know. Those kids are making memories and having experiences that they likely never would have without your efforts. They will probably remember you and the fun they had there forever. As a dad, it makes me happy seeing you do this for those kids.
I've thought about donating to you when some money comes in, but my only worry is if I send you a bunch of good hardware you'll become a target for bad actors :(
Aren’t the 30 series known for being power-intensive? Correct me if I’m wrong but I think the 4070 has more compute AND draws less electricity than a 3070
I posted my 5 year anniversary post a few weeks ago and want to say thanks for all the well wishes. AlsoWant to give a big thank you to u/thursdayspaghetti, who provided the PC, and our anonymous donor who provided the GPU! It took about 3 months to get here and was stuck in customs for another 2 months.
It arrived just in time for our 5-year anniversary milestone. When I first obtained the keys and started this project, we only had four GTX 1050 Ti cards—and one of them broke in the very first week. I truly can't believe how far we have made it with the help of this epic community.
Also i can always appreciate anonymous donors. No external validation needed other than the knowledge in oneself that he or she or it helped out someone.
Hey man I'm so glad it got there in one piece! Hope the kids get good use out of it and I'll be on the lookout for some offline power banks I can send for all the blackouts you guys get!
While of course this community is absolutely wonderful for helping you out, I want you to be very aware of the fact that none of this would be happening without you. What you're doing for these kids is absolutely amazing.
Can confirm, my whole PC weighed 40 lbs and the box was like 30"x30"x30" and it cost about 600usd to ship it over there. Worth it for me but definitely not easy for everyone.
Man, I remember donating years ago. So glad you guys are still going strong. You are providing such great memories for these kids. Whatever God you believe, I hope they will continue blessing you.
I am really surprised he has not had any issues with theft given the value of the hardware, and where he is located. I do not mean by people in the community, I mean via customs. I have had so many issues with customs in various parts of the world....
Time to pack those bags and book a flight to Yemen.
at least they have a degree of reliable sunshine in winter (Solar power + batteries) & usually don't need a heating ... but summer is extra hot & water supply problem (dry country) & some countries (that are not to be named) often bombing Yemen
Let me know what launcher you use (Steam, GOG, Epic etc) you use and a game or 2 of your choice, I will gladly gift them. But I willl need to send the keys I'm not in the same region.

Honestly it’s awesome to hear about Yemen with a happy tone. I only get the media in the US and it’s awesome to actually see you guys living lives instead of being a prop for the US media.

Good stuff! Obvious, but, please make sure those are protected. That ram and gpu are worth a fortune in today's market.

Edit again: so holy shit postage from the UK to yemen is a lot more than I thought. DHL want like £260 for a 60×60×25cm 5kg box. I thought it'd be like 50-100. If anyone wants to help out the offer stands but I'm kinda broke rn ngl. Wtf is that postage about lol. Wasn't long ago you could fly to Australia with a suitcase for not much more than that. Or Asia anyway. I'm getting old and everything costs too much.
Been seeing your posts every now and then for the past couple years while lurking (even before I made my account), and it’s genuinely great to see how this has come together.
It’s stuff like this that shows how much of a difference we all can have on others in our local community no matter where we are in the world. I work in a library and have seen first hand how much gaming can help ease the minds of children. I’ve been doubting my career choice lately and seeing stories like yours has helped with easing my doubts.
I’m glad to see this project is still on the up and up, and I hope you know it’s truly inspiring. I wish the best for you.
the fact that yall have a gaming café in yemen and that kids and people etc in yemen get to experience for me what were some of the funnest times of my youth, i think is truly awesome!!
I'm from Yemen and i tell you, while it's relatively safe and a lotta people do have internal morals .. these PCs are basically unstealable
Cuz you can't just steal a graphics card or a high end keyboard, even if you did.
They're basically pieces of metals at their homes, cuz they can't use them or have a customer to sell them .
The only way they actually get to use them is by playing in the internet cafe
